Also, we were featured in Competitor magazine recently in a round up of people who combine philanthropy with their training. It's amazing what a good cause like Susan G. Komen can do as a motivator to run, even when it's 20 degrees out and raining. Gotta keep moving. Thanks for the article, it portraits my mom's influence on myself and others perfectly. Ah, it’s almost September – and everyone is gearing up for labor day weekend, back to school and oh yeah football season – college football, pro football, fantasy football – bring on the football. You got to love September. But, there’s one more thing that’s top of mind - It’s boob-saving season!
The Race for the Cure is Sunday, September 21st and team 5K35 will be there in full force again. Join the team before the deadline of Friday, August 29th (2 days remain!) and get a “I save boobs.” tee-shirt in line with our theme this year.
We’re raising $5,035 this year for Komen and we’re doing it with a little humor and getting the kids involved. So, watch the video. Check out the children's book on Blurb. Then, sign up to run, walk or donate to help the cause. And, spread the love. Let's save some boobs! Is there a more worthy cause?

Here's some pictures from the Live Strong Summit. Thanks to everyone I met. It was an amazing experience!
The Race is On: Join Team 5K35 and a small army of over 40,000 people for the Portland Race for the Cure on Sunday, September 23, 2007 as we rally together to show our support for breast cancer survivors and in memory of those we've lost to the disease that affects 1 out of 8 women. 75% of all the proceeds stay local to help women in Oregon and SW Washington get early detection. For every $100 we raise, we can save a life.
The Results Thus Far: As of September 8th, team 5K35 has raised over $10k for Komen Oregon, and we're not done yet! Experience what it feels like to give a ittle extra and join us in the fight against breast cancer.
Join us on Sunday, August 5th at PGE Park for the special Portland Beavers baseball game versus the Memphis Redbirds to "Strike Out Breast Cancer."
Komen Oregon, Healthnet and the Portland Beavers team up each year to help raise money for this worthy cause. Game time is 2pm (gates open at 1pm). I'm honored to be joining Amy Troy from KGW and Dr. Devon Webster, the 2007 Honorary race chair for Portland Race for the Cure, to be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. I've been working on a nasty side-arm knuckle-change, so you won't want to miss it.
For discounted tickets go to: www.portlandbeavers.com/grouptickets and enter username "Komen" and password "Pink" to get general admission tickets for only $5.
5K35 goes multimedia. You knew it wouldn't be long until we had a YouTube video on our blog. Well, here it is. It's one part social media and one part personal story. The song is "All These Things That I've Done" by The Killers, one of my favorites currently in iTunes playlist, it's set as my powersong for Nike+. It's a good track to get you moving.
I hope the story inspires you and everyone you know to join the fight against cancer. 75% of all families are affected one way or another by this devastating disease. It will take 560,000 more lives this year. Let's answer the call.
Thanks for your support! Join team 5K35 and make a difference.
Microsoft's Instant Messenger (Windows Live Messenger as it's called now) has joined the online social movement with an interesting idea called simply "i'm".
By adding "*komen" to your display name using their latest version of Live Messenger (v8.1), Microsoft will donate money to the Komen Foundation for every time you chat. You can choose other charities as well if you prefer, such as Ninemillion.org, Red Cross, Boys & Girls Club, The Humane Society, UNICEF and others.
If you're an IM junkie, this just might be the easiest way to get involved and make a difference. You chat. Microsoft gives. Other companies should follow such a simple concept. Click on the Flash banner to the left to sign-up or go here: i'm making a difference.
Here's my 5 latest runs using Nike+. This uses a new widget that allows Nike+ users to share their runs on their Myspace page, blog or web site. Just another step in staying accountable to our running goals, because now everyone can see how we're doing. It's like show and tell for runners.
